FUNCTIONS OF THE KIDNEYS

The main tasks of the kidneys are the removal of metabolic waste products (detoxication) and the regulation of the body´s water, electrolyte and acid/base balance. The two kidneys are located behind the peritoneal space and process approximately 1.700 liters of blood per day.
